Availability:

$ 7.60

Description Lonicera dioica, the limber honeysuckle, is a non-scented though beautiful North American species found from Quebec to BC and north to the Yukon with gorgeous deep red to orange tubular flowers displayed against oval bracts that fuse together like a cup. Plants bloom from late spring to early summer and produce bright orange-red berries that mature in late summer. They are mildly toxic to humans but not to birds who readily feed on them. This is a vigorous, twining, deciduous climber ranging from 3-10 feet long effortlessly supporting itself once trained onto a structure or into a large shrub or small tree. Though tolerant of part shade, expect more flowers in full sun. Requires well-drained moderately fertile soil. Tolerant of a range of soil types including sandy and loamy soils and wet soils. A great vine for the native plant, woodland or cottage gardens or as a specimen for trellises and arbors. Low maintenance and resistant to pests and disease. Hummingbird, songbird and butterfly magnet. Deer and rabbit resistant.
