Description Calochortus tolmiei, known as Tolmie star tulip or hairy star tulip, is a charming perennial bulb native to the U.S. west coast where it enjoys moist winters and dry summers. Noted for its unique bell-shaped simple blooms in ivory-white with purple tinged centres and clothed in short silk hairs. Flowers are born atop erect, wiry stems with blue-green basal leaves. Use as low ground covers, in borders, rock, meadow and woodland gardens. Appreciates sandy or loamy, dry to well-drained soils. Attracts butterflies.
