Description Baptisia alba var. macrophylla is an elegant prairie native commonly known as white false indigo. This upright perennial features small, white, pea-like flowers in erect racemes supported on dark flower stems that rise well above its foliage for a spectacular show. Mounds of pea-like bluish-green foliage provides the perfect foil for the flowers. Very floriferous. Flowers are followed by attractive black seed pods. Gorgeous upright, vase-shaped habit and attractive foliage looks fabulous during and after blooming and allows for underplanting. Plants will reach between 24-48 inches tall and 24-30 inches wide. False indigo are like perennial lupins. They are long-lived and will adapt to a wide range of soils from dry to marginally wet to salty but dislike being moved once established. They will grow into a vase-shaped anchor plant with the weight and presence of a shrub. Use in the border as a specimen, focal point, anchor plant or mass plant in larger gardens. Drought tolerant once established. Nitrogen-fixer. Pollinator attractor. Deer resistant.
