Dianthus cruentus – Blood Pink – Caryophyllaceae (The Pink Family)

Availability:

$ 7.60

Description Dianthus cruentus, the blood pink or blood carnation, is an unusual semi-evergreen alpine species that thrives in sun and well-drained to dry locations. Clusters of fragrant, single, crimson-red flowers emerge from burgundy buds from spring through summer for a brilliant display atop fine, upright, leafless stems well above the blue-green, grass-like basal foliage. Fabulous at the front or mid border where it can act as a “see-through” plant, in rock gardens and containers or by seating areas where the fragrance may be enjoyed. Lightly cut back plants after flowering to promote rebloom. Protect from extremely wet winter conditions. Attracts bees, butterflies, moths, and birds with its nectar and pollen rich flowers.
