Description Asclepias tuberosa ‘Deep Red’ is a very long-lived butterfly milkweed that blooms all summer long with deep orange flowers followed by attractive seed heads. Famously known for drawing monarch butterflies for its nectar and as a larval host for its caterpillars! Flowers are of umbel form, dark red-orange in colour and nectar-rich! It grows 20 inches tall with a 24 inch spread. Deadhead to stimulate more blooming cycles. Unlike other milkweeds, this species does not have milky sap. Requires full sun and fast draining, dry soil. Late to emerge in spring so be patient. Use in the pollinator, cottage and rock garden, as a filler in borders and in fresh and dried bouquets. Pollinator attractor. Deer resistant.
