Description Rubus ‘Balsor’s Hardy’ is an extremely hardy, self-pollinating hybrid blackberry developed in Nova Scotia especially for colder regions of the country. It is a late summer producer with very large, sweet and juicy dark purple to black berries. The fruit is produced on second-year canes. Plants are upright and spreading reaching 5-8 feet tall. Trellising is beneficial for cane support. Appreciates full sun in rich, well-drained soils that are slightly acidic to neutral. In the colder zones 3 and 4, provide extra winter protection with a foot deep mulch of straw or leaves. Ideal for fresh eating, cooking, baking, juicing and preserves. Attracts pollinators and birds.
